I started 'Mothers of Cornwall' because I wanted to create a local supportive community of Mothers. I know from experience how isolating Motherhood can be sometimes, if you add into the mix being down here in Cornwall where things are a bit more remote, especially if you have moved down here away from friends and family then it can be overwhelmingly so. I have also noticed how common it is for Mothers these days to be getting resourceful and creating meaningful work for themselves that fits in with their families, this often means freelance work and creative businesses, Working from home (with kids) adds another layer of loneliness and challenge into the mix! It's all a juggle and to reference the great online resource for freelance parents created by Frankie Tortora, we really are 'Doing It For The Kids'. As I started looking into other supportive communities for Mums more I noticed how common 'meet ups' were with so many great ones happening in London, Bristol. Manchester and other cities around the country. I was inspired to see if there would be a big enough community down here in little old Cornwall, and after our first meet up last night, I can safely say YES!
It was such a pleasure to meet and bring together so many interesting, inspiring and lovely women, it felt like a real buzz of creativity and it made me realise that I love social media for its ability to make connections with wonderful people BUT its also really amazing if you can build on that and meet In Real Life, it creates a much more tangible support network full of laughter, joy and collaboration.
The craft by Tabitha from Little Creative Home was so gorgeous and everyone enjoyed creating their own little personalised banner, and The Ope were the perfect hosts, such a cosy welcoming space with the most delicious food (and wine!) We'll be back! I'm already planning the next so keep your eyes peeled for more info x
